OUR APPROACH • High-Impact Teaching
Summit teachers are focused on developing students' cognitive skills and habits of success through high-impact engagements. Summit teachers facilitate deeper learning, coaching and mentoring in ways that support every student's individual needs.
Teacher |
Teachers deeply know their students, and they deeply know learning outcomes. Teachers are focused on developing students' cognitive skills through project-based learning. Teachers use data—quantitative and qualitative—to diagnose student needs and use their professional skills and shared knowledge of best practices to personalize learning for every student. |
Mentor |
Every student at Summit schools is known by every faculty member in their school, but most deeply by their mentor. Mentors see the larger picture of their mentee's lives: they know their mentees' families; they know each mentee's learning across content areas, cognitive skills, habits of success, and outside-the-classroom experiences; they also know how students are progressing toward their goals. Teachers at Summit have multiple opportunities during the week to interact with their mentees in small groups and one-on-one. During these times, teachers support their mentees in a personalized manner. |
Leader |
Summit teachers understand the value of collaboration. They understand that common language and expectations are essential for student learning. They share best practices across the network, observe one another in the classroom, and work as a team to provide their students with the high-quality education that will prepare them for success. Teachers have the opportunity to take on a variety of leadership roles within these collaborative structures at Summit. |
