Charter Schools : What Parents Should Know

Where oh where is my charter?

There are more than 600 charter schools operating right now in California. Check out our map to find the one nearest you.

How do I learn more about them?

Many schools will have a website where you can find out about their mission and programs. If you have a strong interest in a school, simply call the principal or executive director to arrange a visit. They’d be happy to hear from you.

What if I’m thinking about starting my own charter?

We’ve helped people do it before and we’d love to help you. Click here to learn more about it.

The basics of admission :

Charter schools are public schools and must admit all students who wish to attend
However, once the school has reached the point where there are more applicants than seats available, the school must host a lottery
A charter school can have an enrollment policy as long as it is not discriminatory and is described in the school’s charter
